Tundish is a refractory vessel used in short process steelmaking to receive the molten steel poured from the ladle and distribute it to the individual crystallizers through the intermediate ladle spout. As a key equipment in the steel production process, the ladle connects intermittent and continuous operation and plays an important role in improving steel production and quality.

 

Structure of  Tundish

Intermediate ladle body: welded from steel plate, lined with refractory material, with a water outlet at the bottom.

Ladle cover: Used to cover the ladle and reduce the contact between liquid steel and air.

Plug bar: used to control the flow of molten steel.

Sliding spout: to regulate the pouring speed of molten steel.

 

Function of  Tundish:

Shunt function: In multi-stream continuous casting machine, the intermediate ladle distributes the molten steel to each crystallizer through several water ports to realize multi-stream simultaneous pouring.

Continuous pouring role: in the multi-furnace continuous casting, the liquid steel stored in the intermediate ladle in the replacement of the ladle to play a bridging role to ensure continuous pouring.

Decompression effect: the liquid level of the intermediate ladle changes little, which helps to stabilize the pouring process of the liquid steel and reduce the scouring of the steel flow on the solidified billet shell of the crystallizer.

Protecting effect: through covering agent, long water outlet and other protective devices, it reduces the contact between liquid steel and air, and prevents liquid steel from being oxidized and contaminated.

Removal of impurities: As the last refractory container before the solidification of steel, the intermediate ladle helps to remove non-metallic inclusions in the steel and improve the purity of steel.

 

Main parameters of  Tundish

Capacity: The capacity of Tundish is generally 20%~40% of the capacity of ladle. The more the number of streams in the casting machine, the larger the capacity of the intermediate ladle.

Inside wall slope: The inside wall of Tundish is designed with a certain slope (usually 10%~20%), which is easy to clean the residual steel and slag.

Height: The height of Tundish ladle mainly depends on the depth of steel in the ladle, usually the depth of steel is 600~1200mm.In the multi-furnace continuous pouring, the minimum depth of molten steel in the intermediate ladle shall not be less than 300mm, in order to avoid the steel vortex and slag involved. A distance of 100~200mm should be reserved between the liquid level of steel and the upper mouth of intermediate ladle to prevent the steel from overflowing.

Liquid steel working volume: Max. 45t
