The crystallizer support plate is a key structural component in the continuous casting machine for fixing the copper plate, transferring mechanical loads and assisting heat dissipation. It is located in the back of the crystallizer copper plate (wide or narrow surface), and copper plate close fit, to ensure the stability of the copper plate in high temperature, high pressure and dynamic load, directly affecting the quality of billet casting and equipment life.

1.Function and core role

Resist the deformation of copper plate due to the static pressure of molten steel (about 0.1~0.3MPa), and maintain the geometric accuracy of the working surface of copper plate.

Distribute the mechanical stress transmitted by the straightening rollers and clamping rollers to prevent the copper plate from localized overload.

Integrate cooling water channel or connect with copper plate cooling system to assist copper plate to dissipate heat quickly and reduce the risk of thermal deformation.

Optimization of the heat transfer path by means of high thermal conductivity materials (e.g. copper alloys or plating).

Provide copper plate mounting reference surface to ensure accurate alignment of the copper plate with the crystallizer frame (tolerance ≤ 0.1mm).

Part of the support plate is designed with an adjustable mechanism to compensate for the dimensional deviation of the copper plate after wear.

  1. Matching design with copper plate

Micro-bump design: tiny bumps (height 0.05~0.1mm) are processed on the contact surface of the support plate to increase the effective contact area and enhance the thermal conductivity efficiency.

Flexible gasket: add graphite or metal foil gasket (thickness 0.5~1mm) to compensate for the difference in thermal expansion and reduce contact stress.

Support plate cooling waterway is connected in series with the copper plate cooling tank to form a double-circulation cooling (the main waterway cools the copper plate, and the branch cools the support plate).

Water temperature difference control: copper plate outlet water temperature ≤ 50 ℃, support plate outlet water temperature ≤ 70 ℃, to avoid local boiling.

Hydraulic leveling: adjust the position of copper plate in real time through the hydraulic cylinder at the bottom of the support plate to compensate for the solidification shrinkage of the casting billet.

Thermal expansion gap: design reserved gap (0.2~0.5mm/m) to avoid the support plate and copper plate jammed under high temperature.

  1. Maintenance and life enhancement

Flatness test: Measure the flatness of the support plate with a laser interferometer every month, and the deviation > 0.1mm needs to be repaired and ground.

Plating status assessment: quarterly use of eddy current detector to check the plating spalling or thickness attenuation.

Water quality requirements: suspended solids ≤ 20mg / L, chloride ≤ 50ppm, to prevent corrosion and scaling.

Flow rate monitoring: install flow meter, cooling water flow rate of single support plate ≥300L/min.

Contact surface grinding: CNC grinding machine is used to flatten the slightly deformed support plate (accuracy ±0.01mm).

Localized cladding repair: laser cladding of copper alloy powder in the worn area to restore size and function.

Thickness: 30~80mm (calculated according to copper plate size and load)&nbsp

Cooling waterway: aperture 8~15mm, water flow rate ≥5m/s, water pressure 0.5~1.2MPa&nbsp

Contact surface accuracy: flatness ≤ 0.05mm / m.

Mounting hole tolerance: position ≤ 0.1mm, aperture H7 level&nbsp
